Our commitment to people in Maine living with HIV, people who use drugs, and our LGBTQ+ community members has been at the core of our story, 35 years in the making.

| HEAL Interim Executive Director” A few months ago, while I was covering the exchange window, I had two individuals walk up to the window asking to talk with someone. Of course, I thought something was wrong or that they needed assistance with Naxlone. Some but no, the two individuals just wanted to bring back their supplies and said, “we’re no longer a substance abuser,” please share with someone who needs it, but thank you for always serving us with kindness and without judgment. Because of HEAL, we were able to get the support we needed to be in recovery. This is the first time in years that we have hope. I went home thinking to myself, yes, this is why I have been called to work at HEAL. I sent an email out to the board that night sharing this story. I wanted to let them know that this is what success feels like at HEAL, one person one day at a time. |
