The Legal Services for the Elderly (LSE) Helpline serves residents aged 60 and older across a six-county area who face legal challenges that threaten their basic needs, such as housing, safety from elder abuse, and financial stability. The Helpline provides free, direct access to attorneys via a toll-free number, ensuring older adults can get timely legal help regardless of distance, mobility, or income barriers. Extensive outreach raises awareness of these services among referral sources, making legal support more accessible to vulnerable older Mainers. Nearly half of the calls involve urgent situations, including risks of losing housing, essential food, heat, healthcare, or public benefits—underscoring the critical need for sustained funding to prevent harm and stabilize lives.
